by Zara Jethani
Walavan Sivakumar, MD, has been elected as incoming secretary for the AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee (YNC). That honor involves a two-year term as secretary followed by a two-year term as president.
Being nominated onto the committee involved a nationwide election and Dr. Sivakumar was elected onto the YNC committee in 2014.
AANS Young Neurosurgeons Committee
The Young Neurosurgeons Committee (YNC) provides representatives to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) leadership. They develop the future leaders of neurosurgery and provide a channel for young neurosurgeons to impact the direction of the specialty.
An individual can be nominated to the YNC by any AANS member. A call for nominations goes out each summer. To be eligible, the nominee must still be in training, under 40 years of age or not yet board certified. Elections happen before the end of August with AANS voters who are also under 40 years of age.
Congratulations to Walavan Sivakumar, MD, of Pacific Neuroscience Institute and Saint John’s Cancer Institute for his recent election to become the next YNC Secretary!
