Renovated 1950’s Santa Monica Historical Building Opens As Pacific Neuroscience Institute’s New State-Of-The-Art Clinic

SANTA MONICA (March 19, 2018) – Pacific Neuroscience Institute is very pleased to announce the opening of its new outpatient clinic at 2125 Arizona Avenue, Santa Monica, CA. The historic medical building is adjacent to Providence Saint John’s Health Center and within easy access of the hospital’s dedicated neurosurgical operating suites. The completely renovated facility owned by Saint John’s Health Center Foundation, features state-of-the-art equipment and consultation rooms where patients benefit from the highest quality of comprehensive care.

One of the top neurosurgeons in the United States, Dr. Kelly came to Providence Saint John’s in 2007 with the idea of creating a comprehensive neurological program with all specialties represented in one institute. He said, “The opening of our PNI clinic at 2125 Arizona is the culmination of many years of planning and coordination with Providence Health and Services, Marcel Loh, our Chief Executive at Providence Saint John’s Health Center, and his team.”

The PNI Medical Group includes specialists in neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, neurology, interventional neuro-radiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology (ENT) and neuro-ophthalmology.  The group currently comprises 7 well-established Centers of Excellence:

• Brain Tumor Center
• Pituitary Disorders Center
• Eye, Ear and Skull Base Center
• Adult Hydrocephalus Center
• Facial Pain Center
• Movement Disorders Center
• Stroke and Aneurysm Center

Areas of expertise at this new location include the diagnosis and treatment of: brain and skull base tumors; pituitary tumors; eye and vision disorders, ear & hearing disorders; sinus and nasal disorders; adult hydrocephalus conditions; facial pain disorders; and movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. Neuro-oncology consultations are available both at the new facility and the John Wayne Cancer Clinic in the garden level of the main hospital. Emergency stroke services at the Primary Stroke Center and endovascular and microsurgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms remain at Providence Saint John’s Health Center. All PNIMG physicians accept Medicare and most are in-network insurance providers.

Dr. Kelly’s PNI co-founders include Chester F. Griffiths, MD, FACS, head and neck surgeon/otolaryngologist; neuro-oncologist Santosh Kesari, MD, PhD, and neuro-ophthalmologist Howard R. Krauss, MD.

According to the City of Santa Monica’s architectural description, the three-story building, formerly called the Santa Monica Doctors Building, is a Streamline Moderne medical office building designed in 1946 and constructed during the early 1950s. The building has a distinctive, curved corner entrance located at the southeast corner at the intersection of 22nd Street and Arizona Avenue. The medical office building is the kind of building type that was developed in the early twentieth century as the population in Los Angeles and Santa Monica grew and the medical profession became more specialized.

Many Santa Monica residents have watched the 2125 Arizona Ave. building’s transformation over the years from its original construction between 1950 and 1952 as a medical office building for doctors, dentists and a pharmacy to its latest incarnation.

Providence Saint John’s Health Center is planning an official inaugural open house event along with a blessing for physicians and caregivers in early May.
