The Beauty Bus Foundation is Bringing Beauty Home to Oncology Patients

Beauty Bus Foundation, is an organization that delivers hope and dignity through free-of-charge, in-home and in-hospital beauty and grooming services to clients and their caregivers throughout the Los Angeles area. Their mission is to color the worlds of terminally or chronically ill patients who don’t often get the chance to indulge in feeling good about themselves.

Founded in 2009 to provide in-home beauty and grooming services, Beauty Bus Foundation has expanded its programming to turn conference rooms at places like City of Hope, Ronald McDonald House and other facilities around Los Angeles into Pop-Up Salons for the day. With music playing, patients (Beauty Bus Foundation refers to them as clients) and caregivers visit stations set-up for hair, makeup, nails, facials, and glitter tattoos. Typically, 6-8 Beauty Professionals work with 30-50 clients during such a visit.

“Our volunteers are the heart of Beauty Bus,” according to Wendy Marantz Levine, Founder and CEO. “It is because our volunteers give their time and talent so generously that Beauty Bus has been able to give clients and their caregivers more than 15,000 free beauty services.”

Beauty Series, a program that recently launched at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Providence Holy Cross Center in Mission Hills and at Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank on a weekly basis, has received overwhelming response from patients, as well as hospital personnel. The Beauty Bus team visits hospitals to provide consistent services to patients in their hospital rooms or in a “salon” setting within the hospital.

Every Tuesday, Beauty Bus volunteers bring their bus, a bag of goodies and beauty technicians to Saint John’s oncology wing, to brighten up and beautify lives. They see 6-8 clients a day, spending around an hour or as much meaningful time with a client as possible.

To date, Beauty Bus Foundation has provided more than 15,000 beauty and grooming services.
