A Lifelong Journey With Panhypopituitarism
I have been a panhypopituitarism patient for 40 years when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of five. The surgery went better than expected, and so did the follow up care, until I became an adult. I entered a new world of challenges as most endocrinologists know nothing about the complexities of a patient who has no pituitary. Many of the “specialty” doctors I went through before finding Dr. Katherine Araque were either poorly versed in pituitary replacement care or were apathetic and cared very little about me as a human being.
Panhypopituitarism often requires coordinated care with a specialist who understands hormone replacement therapy, adrenal crises, metabolic changes, and the long-term effects of pituitary dysfunction.
A Critical Turning Point
In 2018 I nearly died due to poor medical care. I knew what was wrong, but my doctors at that time would not listen. A virus was complicating my endocrine condition which in turn was complicating getting over the virus. Finally, after almost 1 year and 1/2 of being deathly ill and searching for an endocrinologist who understood my condition, I came across PNI
