Refractory Meniere’s Syndrome

Conditions We TreatRefractory Meniere’s Syndrome

Meniere’s Disease is a condition of the inner ear resulting in vertigo, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hearing loss.

Though the exact cause is unknown, it is commonly understood to be due to dysfunction / overactivity of the vestibular nerve.

Most patients respond to a low-salt diet and medications such as diuretics and corticosteroids. In some patients, direct injection into the ear may be helpful (gentamycin injection).

In the rare patient that doesn’t respond to the above measures, then surgery may be necessary for vestibular neurectomy (cutting the vestibular nerve). This can be done with a minimally invasive, endoscope assisted approach.
