Bob Klein serves as the President and CEO of the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation and oversees the management of all philanthropic development efforts. He plays a leadership role in the creation and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program supporting Saint John’s Health Center, Pacific Neuroscience Institute and the John Wayne Cancer Institute’s healthcare and research missions. Bob’s career with Saint John’s spans 26 years.
Following the 1994 earthquake, Bob played an integral role in defining Saint John’s vision of an integrated healthcare delivery system, developing new business strategies, and supporting the Foundation’s initial $125 million Capital Campaign for the replacement campus. Subsequently, he oversaw to completion an additional $100 million Capital Campaign that enabled Saint John’s Health Center to open the first phase of the new campus in the summer of 2009.
Prior to joining Saint John’s, Bob worked in real estate development and brokerage, and corporate finance. He played professional football with the Los Angeles Rams (1969-77) and the San Diego Chargers (1977-80) and was an All-America collegiate player at the University of Southern California (USC). Bob was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft and remained in Southern California for his entire career.
Graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1969, Bob received an MBA degree from the University of Southern California in 1974 with an emphasis in real estate. Bob holds an active California real estate broker’s license and became president of a commercial/industrial development in 1980 overseeing that firm’s commercial brokerage and development operations for over 12 years.
Bob is very active in the community and serves on the boards of several non-profits. He has supported and led several of his local community civic organizations. He is a founding member of the Palisades Literary Society and Palisades Ridge Runners, whose members are responsible in a large part for organizing and managing the Palisades Will Rogers 5K and 10K Fourth of July race every year.
Bob has been an active board member of the Santa Monica Rotary Club. He has also supported his children’s school and his own alma mater Corpus Christi School by serving as President of the Corpus Christi Parents School Association. Bob’s parents were founding members of Corpus Christi Church. Bob and his wife, JoAnn have been members of the parish community since early childhood and are now part of four generations of Corpus Christi parishioners and three generations at Corpus Christi School. Bob served as a board member at Marymount High School and President of the Fathers Club. One of Bob’s long-time commitments has been a board member of the Catholic Big Brothers and Sisters of Los Angeles.
A native of Los Angeles, Bob resides in the Pacific Palisades with his wife JoAnn. They have three adult children and eight grandchildren who also all reside in Pacific Palisades.
