Interventional Neuroradiology, Stroke & Aneurysm Center

Samuel Hou, MD, PhD, is a neuro-interventional surgeon (interventional neuroradiologist) serving the Providence Health System in Southern California. Dr. Hou’s surgical techniques specialize in the endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke, brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and arteriovenous fistulas of the brain and spine. He is board certified from the American Board of Radiology with specific sub-specialization in diagnostic neuroradiology. As both a clinician and scientist devoted to the well being of his patients, Dr. Hou’s interests are focused on how to advance and optimize patient care and management in the treatment of complex neurovascular diseases through techniques that are minimally invasive.

Dr. Hou is a graduate of the University of Chicago with Honors in Chemistry and was one of four students selected to the MD/PhD program in Biochemistry at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with both MD and PhD degrees. He followed with the completion of his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of California at Irvine, and pursued a fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Hou advanced his experience at the University of Massachusetts in Neuro-interventional surgery where he received extensive training in leading-edge neuro-endovascular techniques, including minimally invasive procedures which yield maximum results for his patients. His extraordinary surgical skills and knowledge of advanced techniques resulted in his promotion to Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Hou brings these skills along with his expertise in advanced patient care and management to Providence Saint John’s Health Center.

Dr. Hou has been an invited speaker and lecturer at numerous national meetings and has presented his research at many international conferences for other neuro-interventional surgeons to advance the field for the betterment of patient care. He is a senior member of the Society of Neuro-Interventional Surgery, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America.
