Rusty was born in Los Angeles and for the past 35 years has resided in Manhattan Beach with his wife, Mary Anne. They have two grown daughters. Prior to his retirement he was president and owner of Karsten Realty Advisors, a registered real estate investment advisory firm, advising and managing real estate assets for pension funds.
He graduated from Pomona College and earned an MBA from USC. Rusty is a member of the Pomona College and Children’s Bureau board of directors. He also served on a three-person committee to oversee the development of the new Los Angeles County Hospital and the Los Angeles City police headquarters.
Rusty became a trustee of the Saint John’s Health Center Foundation in 1996 and served as chairman from 2000 – 2003. He served as a key advisor and Pacific Neuroscience Institute liaison for the development of the new PNI clinic throughout the entire construction project.
