International Scientific Outreach

For many years Pacific Neuroscience Institute (PNI) physicians and scientists have been committed to education and scientific exchange with colleagues around the world. PNI neurosurgeon, Garni Barkhoudarian, MD, is known as a leading proponent of minimally invasive keyhole brain and pituitary surgery and has lectured in both national and international venues.

Dr. Garni Barkhoudarian, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Neurosurgery at the Saint John’s Cancer Institute, Co-Director of Pacific Pituitary Disorders Center, and Director of the Pacific Adult Hydrocephalus Center and Pacific Facial Pain Center, joined Santosh Kesari, MD, PhD, and Venkata Yenugonda, PhD, Director of Drug Discovery, Department of Translational Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics, as speakers at the 9th Annual Indian Society of Neuro-Oncology conference organized by Department of Radiation Oncology, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and hosted at the NIMHANS Convention Centre (as seen in the blog header image).

 


In March 2017, Dr. Kesari, Director, Department of Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics, and team made a few ambassadorial trips in India to strengthen our relationships and broaden our collaborative scope in personalized medicine treatments for diseases such as glioblastoma (the most deadly form of brain cancer) and other neurological disorders.

Drs. Kesari and Yenugonda visited one the largest government research hospitals in India that serves the poor and underprivileged, to establish educational and research collaborations in neurosciences and oncology. They discussed collaborative opportunities with Dr. K. Manohar, Director of NIMS along with the neurosurgical and medical oncology leadership at NIMS.

Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT)
Hyderabad, India

Dr. Yenugonda’s alma matar, IICT is a premier institute for higher learning. Since its inception in 1944, it has been instrumental in addressing numerous societal challenges and innovative solutions to problems of Indian industries in the area of drugs and pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, lipids, catalysis, functional materials, environmental, analytical, biological and engineering sciences. Drs. Yenugonda and Kesari met with key members of the faculty to discuss the current state of drug development and initiatives slated for future exploration with collaborations in oncology and neurosciences.

The Indian pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries are fast track growth sectors with global reach as represented by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory and Aurigene. Drs. Yenugonda and Kesari met with senior leadership of both organizations to discuss R&D and clinical trial collaborations.
